The Picture above shows my feet after my first time out.
"OUCH" is all I have to say my feet fell like there on fire right now.
It was a cool and pleasant morning, a wonderful day to go on a walk. Got up put on my shirt and some shorts, and left the shoes and socks behind. What am I getting myself into, is what I thought as my first foot hit the pavement. It was like instant pain, but beside the pain it actually felt nice to go out without shoes on. I went on a 2.8 mile walk witch took me roughly 45 min to complete, and during that walk I took a run for roughly 8 min. While I was running I tried to just relax and run like I had been doing it my whole life, it seemed like I was doing every thing right. I had some pain in my left ankle, on the tops of my feet, and the bottom, and a little in my shins other than that it was great. I also tried to measure my cadance, wich is how many steps you take in a minute, It was approxamatly 190 steps. How I figured it out was count everytime my right foot hit the ground for 1 min and then multiply it by 2. Towards the end of my walk it felt like I had needles going into my feet every time I stepped down. Now that I have sat down and have been typing this up, every time I get out of the chair I can barly walk, not even 30 mins of rest and my feet are killing me. Hopefully I dont get giant blisters. Probably going to rest it out tomarow.
Post run results:
Milage---2.8
Time--- 45min
Walking Time--- 37 min

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST BAREFOOT EXPERIENCE LIKE?
It looks like you need shoes.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the fold :) I'm also a barefoot runner, and don't think I'll ever look back.
ReplyDeleteOne word of advice though - take it slow! I can't emphasise this enough. Force yourself to maintain a strict acclimation routine, or else you may end up with blisters, tendonitis, and possibly worse.
I recommend starting at no more than 1/4 mile and building up from there in 1/8 or 1/4 imcrements. It's very easy to get overzealous, and it's hard not to run as far as you would with shoes. It's even harder to have to take 3 weeks off with achilles tendonitis!
Best of luck on your journey!
Hi,
ReplyDeletegreetings from Germany,
2.8 miles... way to much for the first time!
Most important: don't get any blister! This throws you backwards. You can feel very good when you get too much. Listen to the feet. No Pain, it's not necessary.
Best of luck on your journey!
i just gave it a try today! about 1 mile to the gym and 1 mile back after my workout. it felt good. i'm still needing to correct my habit of running on my heels. the pads of my feet are a little bit sore running on the mid 90 degree weather hot pavement but it doesn't really bother me. I'm figure they will toughen up as i start to run barefoot on a regular basis. before i had been running with my under armor shoes and my ankle would occasionally get sore. i had some knee pain before i started running. i have been running now for about a month and a half and my knee pain is pretty much gone. I'd still like to try the vibram 5 fingers out but running completely barefoot has to be an incomparably liberating experience. i can really feel exactly how i am running. I feel some of my leg and feet muscles getting the exercise that they miss out on when i'm running with shoes.
ReplyDeletethat's bad foot
